Artist's Bio
Having experience in photography, metalsmithing, fiber arts, printmaking, and fine art media, I often joke that I am a Jack of all trades. Because of my varied interests, I enjoy creating mixed media work and utilizing craft to add dimension, texture, and diversity to my work. Inspired by Dada and the Surrealist movement, I often create images with the intent of challenging our way of life by transforming the familiar into something playfully absurd. With my photography especially, I use mirrors, long exposure, and unusual lighting to push the boundaries of the medium and see how far I can get away from the objectivity with which photography is known.
My work, at times, takes a turn towards self-reflection, and I use it to question who I am, how I'm perceived, and to understand my place in the world. I often achieve this through self-portraits, using them as a reflection of the world around me as well. With my education in psychology, I am inclined to examine the mind and perception. I am critical of binary and restrictive thinking and use juxtaposition and contrast to communicate these concerns. Gender, sexuality, insecurity, isolation, dreams, and self-concept are frequent subjects of my work.

Callie Wrenn was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 2000. Though she enjoyed drawing and taking art classes her entire life, she became invested in creating art when she began taking metalsmithing classes in high school. This sparked her passion for art and inspired her to attend after school programs at the Manchester Craftsmen's Guild (MCG), where she took classes in various mediums and participated in their yearly Invitational.
In 2018 she began attending the University of Pittsburgh where she studies Studio Arts and Psychology. Throughout her art education she gained new inspirations and became much more invested in her photography, which she had published in Polaris Literary Magazine in 2019. She continues to work in a wide variety of materials, learning new techniques in her studio courses. She currently works mostly in photography, sculpture, mixed media, and printmaking. After graduating in the spring, she plans on dedicating most of her energy to metalsmithing as well as continuing to work in printmaking and digital photography.
